Five principles combined together to form a foundation of modern biology;
1) cell theory
-cells are the basic, building blocks of life.
2) evolution=
a. Change in the genetic composition of a population during successive generations, as a result of natural selection acting on the genetic variation among individuals, and resulting in the development of new species.
b. The historical development of a related group of organisms; phylogeny.
3) gene theory
The total complement of genes in an organism or cell is known as its genome which is stored on one or more chromosomes. A chromosome is an organized structure of DNA and protein on which thousands of genes, depending on the organism, are encoded.
4) Homeostasis
the ability of an open system to regulate its internal environment to maintain a stable condition by means of multiple dynamic equilibrium adjustments controlled by interrelated regulation mechanism
5) Energy
energy is an attribute of all biological systems from the biosphere to the smallest living process.
